Sanibel Causeway Grand Opening

It’s time to celebrate the grand opening of the new Sanibel Causeway and say goodbye to its predecessor - a grand structure connecting Sanibel to Fort Myers for the last 44 years.  In some ways the two causeways are very similar and yet, in other ways, so very, very different.   All Lee County citizens are invited to attend the grand opening ceremonies to view the new causeway, envision the future, and take one final look at the historic old causeway to remember the past.

But the grand opening is not just past and future history, it’s also about celebrating!!!  There are numerous recreational activities going on all morning.  There is something for everyone.  All activities are on Island ‘B’  ( the island closer to Sanibel )

ONGOING ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

• 5K Race on the New Causeway
• Kayaking Activities
• Sail Boat Regatta
• First Car Procession ( Classic and Antique Cars ) Across New Bridge C
• Walkers and Bicyclists Traversing the Entire New Causeway
• Lee County Commissioners Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Sanibel Causeway 5K Race

This is the first and only run over the New Sanibel Causeway Bridge. The race starts on the second causeway island closest to Sanibel, known as Island B on the race map.  The couse will take the runners over the new causeway bridges to the toll booth and then back to Island B.

Public Parking for all Events on Both Causeway Islands with a Continuous Bus Shuttle Service
